"I’m looking for the essence, a sculptural rendition and also different perspectives of gaze. I like to feel all the contrasts that can be perceived through our bodies, feminine, masculine or from somewhere in the middle. Notes of Beauty, strength, delicateness, power, stillness and movement within all human forms. I like to be intrigued and mildly confused and that's how I want my audience to feel when viewing my images."

March 20 2015, I was on the sunny coast in Australia doing a shoot with two guys who were my surfer dude models for the day. We finished shooting at the beach much earlier than I had expected (great time management loc)(great sarcasm too). We sat down for lunch and I asked Nathaniel and Lamare if either of them knew any kinds of dance (some vague mix of dancey - minimalistic - wide-angle ideas were coming together in my head). Stomp, Ballet and Indiginous Australian Dance, were the responses,

Voila it was Loc’s lucky day. We finished lunch and drove back down to the beach with a few hundred photos left on my memory card, an empty beach and some Aussie afternoon sun. I had two athletes in shorts, launching themselves in the air, (with style) smashing against the hard sand with their feet, twisting, turning, spraying sand and just hurling energy around. I was experiencing something and creating something strong, graphic, beautiful, abstract and both chaotic and balanced at the same time. It was an incredible feeling. It was simple,

PS - That’s us on the right.

I knew in that moment I had discovered my world.

A quick self summary for the art lovers.

I always think of an image (and ourselves actually) as a recipe, and I like words so here you go -

You may see a dollop of Bill Brandt’s nudes & architecture, or Cartier Bresson more for his words relating to geometry and balance than his pictures. Maybe a spoon of Degas' world of ballet or Matisse’s minimalism and abstract forms. Throw in some Penn, Newton & Ritts on a sumptuous bed of Lord Egon Schiele, Giacometti & Yves Klien. A sprinkle of Fauvism and Bobs your uncle, Gateau de Locs World is served. Oh and I forgot the entree, a Robert Capa Canape “If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough.” which I’ve quite “literally”interpreted and have been continuing to explore since.
